It’s difficult to draw lessons from the first training session for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen descent on Saturday. Firstly, because the athletes only set off on the summit part of the Kandahar in order to preserve the bottom of the German track, given the high temperatures prevailing in Bavaria. Secondly, because the favorites did not show themselves at the forefront. The fault, most certainly, of changing snow conditions.
The high numbers were pleased since we found nine skiers who started after the world top 20 ranked among the ten fastest skiers of the day. The best time was signed by the Austrian Nadine Fest and her bib 38. Ester Ledecká was the only one of the headliners to perform well. The versatile Czech signed the 2nd best time, jointly with the Austrian Magdalena Egger.
In this little game, Priska Ming-Nufer (bib 25) achieved the best Swiss time to take 14th place. Delia Durrer is 19th, Stephanie Jenal 21st and Joana Hählen 26th. Corinne Suter (31st) and Lara Gut-Behrami (38th) are much further down the rankings. We find them in a peloton, which conceded more than two seconds on the lead, notably in the company of Federica Brignone, Lindsey Vonn, Ilka Štuhec or, even further back, Cornelia Hütter.
