The match between the Canadiens and the Red Wings will be presented at 7 p.m. this evening on RDS and RDS.ca.

PREMATCH

The Canadian visits the Detroit Red Wings this evening.

Martin St-Louis’ troop will then be looking for a third win in a row, after having defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers in quick succession.

This will be the third clash between the two teams this season, the Habs having won the first two 4-3 and 5-1 on December 20 and 21.

Samuel Montembeault will be the starting goalkeeper for CH, who will also see three of his players reach important milestones in their careers. Christian Dvorak and Patrik Laine will each be in their 500th NHL game, while Brendan Gallagher will be in a big league uniform for the 800th time.

St-Louis could, for its part, sign its 100th victory since taking its place behind the Canadian bench.

The Wings will also be without striker Patrik Kane. Injured, his state of health is reassessed daily. Cam Talbot will have the mandate to repel the Canadian’s shots.

If the Montrealers are going through a happy streak, this is not the case for their rivals this evening. The Red Wings have suffered three losses in a row and have scored only three goals during this streak.

These failures pushed the Michigan club back in the race for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With a total of 47 points, the Wings are five points behind the last place giving access, currently occupied by the Ottawa Senators.

The Canadian, like the Senators, has 52 points and a record of 24-19-4, but Ottawa currently holds the advantage thanks to its victories in regulation time.
