Whoever the future coach of the Red Devils is, he will certainly be briefed by the federation on the Konstantinos Karetsas file. Will the Belgian-Greek be called up in March?
On March 20 and 23, Belgium will play two very important matches against Ukraine in the play-offs to remain in the Nations League A. We still do not know who will be the coach of the Red Devils for the occasion and that is of course Vincent Mannaert’s number 1 file currently.
But one of the other priorities of the technical director of the federation is that which concerns Konstantinos Karetsas. The creative milieu of KRC Genk could well be called up by Greece next March and, therefore, make a potentially definitive choice against Belgium.
According to his father, Vaios Karetsas, his son is not really concerned about that at the moment. “In March, there are international matches to come, and it is very likely that he will be called up by a national team,” he admitted in the columns of Newspaper.
-“But for example, we have not yet had any concrete discussions with the Belgian Federation. I did, however, have Vincent Mannaert on the phone, but it was about making contact. It is important that there is a project sportsman around him”, estimates Karetsas senior.
Greece will face Scotland twice in March. It is possible that he will be summoned by both the Belgian coach and the Greek coach. “If he is still hesitant at that point, no decision will be made,” assures Vaios.
The choice also seems to have become complex on a sporting level because Greece recently convinced dual nationals to opt for it. “The Greek national team has changed dramatically. They have new management, a new coach, and are focusing more on youth. Belgium remains ahead of Greece in terms of talent and sporting performance, but that doesn’t make not the easiest choice.”
