Thorgan Hazard did not hide at a press conference that if he was aligned on the left with Anderlecht, it was for the good of the team… but that he preferred to play elsewhere. What if, quite quickly, the interests of David Hubert and his player aligned?
This Wednesday at a press conference, there was a lot of talk about the place in which Thorgan Hazard. Against Viktoria Plzen, but also absolutely. Now that he’s back, Hazard will have to find a place in David Hubert’s system, and there are people in the position he occupied before his injury.
On the left, Anderlecht can indeed count on Francis Amuzu, back from his concussion, Samuel Edozie who is often favored by David Hubert (but is absent this Thursday) and César Huerta, not registered for Europe. If in Plzen, Thorgan should start on the left (Amuzu only recently returned to training), in the future, that is perhaps not where he will be most useful.
Hazard, the 10th that Anderlecht is looking for?
“My favorite position is not on the left. It’s in the middle and the coach knows it,” smiled Hazard at a press conference on the eve of the match. After the match against Kortrijk, the problem had already been raised by Hubert: “We know well that Thorgan will have a tendency to move into the middle and look for spaces where they are”, declared the RSCA coach (read here ).
-A “problem” which is not really one, because if there is one position where the RSCA lacks depth, it is… that of n°10. Mario Stroeykens will not make his return straight away, and Yari Verschaeren has struggled to convince in recent months. The idea of a new creative environment is often mentioned, transfer window after transfer window, and will therefore also be one of the files on Olivier Renard’s desk.
But in the medium, or even short term, the solution is perhaps right under David Hubert’s nose: Thorgan Hazard is probably the ideal No. 10 in the absence of Mario Stroeykens, capable of combining with Kasper Dolberg (or Luis Vazquez) and, thereby, freeing the left flank for the probably near day when Huerta will be ready to start the meetings.
