The LOU scrum-half has scored a try in each of his last ten Top 14 matches, a series in progress. He has even scored 18 in 18 appearances since January.
Baptiste Couilloud continues to break the records. Last season, the LOU scrum-half finished as the top try scorer with 17 touches (in 22 appearances), ahead of Damian Penaud (14 in the UBB jersey) and Tavite Veredamu (12 goals for Usap). He scored 23.6% of his team’s total (72), becoming the French player to have scored the most tries in a season in the Top 14 (beating Toulouse’s Maxime Médard, 15 goals in 2010-2011)!
This series has accelerated since the end of January 2024. Against Perpignan, Baptiste Couilloud scored a try, repeating the feat a week later with a double against Clermont, before achieving another double against Rochelais the following weekend. On a roll with already two tries in two days this season
At the start of the season, the LOU captain has indeed maintained his infernal pace by flattening out on the first day against Montpellier before repeating the feat on Saturday against UBB. Straddling the two seasons, Baptiste Couilloud has thus scored a try in each of his last ten league matches, a series that is still ongoing!
An even more stratospheric series in all competitions: he has scored 18 tries in his last eighteen appearances in official matches, adding, in passing, his double against Uruguay during the XV de France tour in South America this summer (but without counting his try against Racing 92 in a pre-season friendly match). For, once again, an average per match that is easily calculated in your head.
To date, Baptiste Couilloud, who had already finished as the championship’s top scorer in 2021-2022 (11 tries), has a stat line of 60 tries in 134 Top 14 matches (including 100 starts). Let’s bet that it hasn’t finished swelling…
