Noemi Rüegg launched her season perfectly! The 23-year-old from Zurich won the Tour Down Under as the Women’s World Tour kicked off in Australia. Geneva’s Elise Chabbey, for her part, finished 5th.
One day after his first stage victory at the highest level, Rüegg (23) also won the overall by one lap for the first time in his young career.
The EF Education-Cannondale rider repelled all attacks from her competitors and even sprinted for 3rd place at the end of the final stage of 105.9 km, which was won by the two-time world champion in time trial, American Chloé Dygert, through the Adelaide Hills around Stirling.
Chabbey moves up 2 ranks
“It was a real challenge today. I was very nervous all day because I absolutely wanted to bring home the leader’s jersey. The fact that I achieved that makes me super happy”rejoiced Rüegg. “I know now that I did the right things in winter. I can build on that”.
-Rüegg won the overall with a 13″ lead over the Dutchwoman Silke Smulders. The Genevan Elise Chabbey moved up 2 places to finish in 5th place.
