Three days after their arrival (Charlie Dalin on January 14 and Yoann Richomme on January 15), and while Sébastien Simon (Dubreuil Group) took third place on Friday, we interviewed the first two of the 10th Vendée Globe, completed in Les Sables-d’Olonne respectively in the astonishing time of 64 days 19 hours 22 minutes for the first and 65 days 18 hours 10 minutes for the second. During this cross-interview, the idea was to get the two sailors to react on their world tour with the same thematic questions. While Armel Le Cléac’h’s record (74 days 3 hours 35 minutes in 2017) was shattered, this Friday there were still 31 boats in the race out of the 40 at the start.
Earth Sickness
Charlie Dallin: No, I didn’t feel anything. On the other hand, I had an eventful first night on land. My wife told me that I jumped out of bed screaming: “Damn, I forgot to tack,” pulled the curtains, opened the window… I don’t remember anything.
Yoann Richomme: Earth sickness has happened to me before, but not this time actually, although… I still did physiological tests upon arrival in order to put one foot in front of the other with my eyes closed. I didn’t fall, but there were two of them holding me back so I wouldn’t break my face.
