Hamza Mendyl (27) has signed a contract until 2026 with Aris Salonika, with an option for an additional year.
The Moroccan player arrived in Leuven in the summer of 2022 from German club Schalke 04. During his time at OHL, which plays in the Belgian Pro League, the left-back made 71 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 9 assists.
Born in Casablanca, Hamza Mendyl trained at the Mohammed VI Football Academy before joining the LOSC B team (France) in 2016 and taking his first steps in the first team the following year. He then joined German club Schalke 04 in 2018 and returned to France a year later in the form of a loan to Dijon, before playing a season at Gaziantep in Turkey from 2021 to 2022.
The player also has 20 appearances for the national team, but has not been called up since November 2020.
-Aris Salonika is currently 5th in the Greek Super League with 27 points after 18 days of championship. Ayoub El Kaabi’s Olympiacos, leader, is 13 points ahead. Next Sunday, Aris will play a derby against its long-time rival, PAOK Salonika.
