Lance Armstrong admits to being addicted to alcohol: ‘Quitting drinking was the best decision of my life’

“This work of art really says it all,” he explains in a text published alongside a photo of him, sitting in front of a board where it is written “This was then, this is now” (that was then, this is now). “It’s a work that I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from over the last ten years because my life has been, let’s say, interestinghe continues. But today it’s different and the inspiration is different. Very different. A year ago, I decided that my relationship with alcohol was over and was no longer in my best interest. And not in the interest of my family, my friends, my team and my community either. I believe life should be viewed as a pump or a drain. An asset or a handicap. A positive or a negative. It was my decision and I feel like it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Six months ago, I mentioned hearing an “inner voice” that I finally listened to. A year after this trip, I still hear this voice telling me that it is proud of me. It fills me up every time I hear it. Finally, I would like to thank my beautiful wife Anna Hansen Armstrong for her incredible and caring support over the past twelve months. Darling, you are my rock and I love you so much.”

Lance Armstrong recounts his descent into hell: “In a snap of my fingers, I went from hero to zero”

After helping his former enemy Jan Ullrich (“he saved my life while I was on the road to Pantani”even says the German, who was addicted to alcohol and drugs), Lance Armstrong had also reached out to Bradley Wiggins, also an alcoholic and in the grip of serious financial problems, a few months ago. Two trajectories which visibly helped him confront his own addictions.

They went through hell in 2024 (5/6): in debt and homeless, Sir Bradley Wiggins could end up accepting the outstretched hand of Lance Armstrong
