Maud Fauvel dedicates a visceral attachment to The Hôtel de Grandval-Calignyhas Valognes.

A host named Barbey
Grandval-Caligny, whose first architectural elements date back to the 17th century, entered my family in 1912. My great-grandparents acquired it directly from Mr. Pierre Le Maréchal, the then owner. Why this purchase? I don't know precisely. My great-grandfather was from Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte… just like Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly. Perhaps it is necessary to see there a beginning of explanation.

Even if I did not live permanently in my young years, I spent my childhood here in Grandval. It was the home port! It was in the years 75/77 that my grandparents opened the house to the public for the memory of Barbey. In the 90s, around the age of 10, I remember very well that I was (already) the visits myself. But the path, the custodian of the soul of the Hôtel de Grandval-Caligny knows it, is still long.

A rich program of entertainment until September

In September, there will be the traditional wealth of heritage days with two conferences, one of P. Simon – Bouet on the quotes of Barbey d'Aurevilly (September 19, 6:30 p.m.), the other from E. Turnip (subject) on the Amerindians (September 20, 9 p.m.).
