A star recruit for the Ile-de-France club, the English fly-half had surgery for pubalgia in mid-November.
Englishman Owen Farrell will make his return to competition with Racing 92 on Saturday against the Stormers, his coach Stuart Lancaster announced on Thursday two days before the meeting which will determine the European future of his team this season. “He trained well today. He is confident he can start the meeting. He may not play 80 minutes, obviously because he is coming back from a long injury.commented the English coach of the Ile-de-France residents at a press conference.
Flagship recruit of the off-season, the fly half in 112 matches with the England team has not yet shown the full extent of his talent with the Ciel et Blanc. He played eight of the first nine Top 14 matches with adductor discomfort and finally had surgery for pubalgia in mid-November.
Racing 92 recorded other returns compared to the young team that returned without points from Glasgow, such as scrum-half Nolann Le Garrec, second row Will Rowlands, third row Cameron Woki and even prop Hassane Kolingar. Center Gaël Fickou, injured in a thumb, is still absent.
-“As with every return of an injured player, it’s a joy for the group to have him back” on the field, described third line Maxime Baudonne. But the opener was never far away. “He was almost a coach during those two months when he wasn’t playing. Even when traveling, he was there. He was there during warm-ups. He spoke very often.” Racing 92 faces the South African franchise Stormers, based in Cape Town, and needs a victory and favorable results in the other two group matches to hope to qualify for the round of 16.
