The Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, received, this Wednesday in Rabat, the Spanish Commissioner General of Information, Javier Antonio Susín Bercero, visiting Morocco at the head of a high-level security delegation.

A press release from the DGST highlights that this visit is of capital importance given that the newly appointed Spanish Commissioner General of Information chose Morocco for his first visit abroad with the aim of promoting bilateral cooperation relations. in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism.

On this occasion, Hammouchi and his Spanish counterpart had intense talks focused on the assessment of risks and terrorist threats in the various hotbeds of tension around the world, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara region, as well as on the valorization and strengthening of operations carried out jointly for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The two parties also reviewed the role that the DGST services can play as part of joint efforts on the occasion of the 2030 World Cup, organized jointly by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, in particular the aspect relating to criminal intelligence, proactivity and the neutralization of all dangers to public security.

During these meetings, the Spanish Commissioner General of Information welcomed the distinguished level of cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco, affirming that Spain was able to be spared dangerous terrorist attacks thanks to the decisive and highly reliable information provided by the DGST services.

The Spanish official also expressed his country’s wish to continue to benefit from the support of the DGST to confront terrorism, particularly in a global context marked by growing and complex security challenges. He also insisted on the importance of strengthening joint operations and simultaneous arrests, carried out by the security services of the two countries in radicalized environments both in Morocco and in Spain.

The discussions between the two parties were marked by the convergence of views on the imperative of consolidating and intensifying common security cooperation mechanisms in various areas, including the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, so as to confront jointly the risks hovering over the security of the two neighboring countries, concludes the press release.

Note that this visit illustrates the advanced stage of the security partnership between Morocco and Spain, just as it reveals the increased demand on the Moroccan security model in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
