The Central African Federation (FCF) contests the appointment of Rigobert Song as coach of the national team, a decision taken without his consent as it claims.

In a press release, the FCF explains that it learned the news “with dismay and surprise through social networks […]. The Executive Committee of the Central African Football Federation meeting in extraordinary session on January 14, 2025 informs national and international opinion that it was not associated or consulted in the making of this decision.

The FCF claims not to have been consulted and considers this appointment as an interference in its prerogatives. It recalls that the recruitment of members of management structures falls exclusively within its competence.

The Federation had previously decided to nationalize the position of coach, entrusting the interim to an entirely Central African technical staff led by Éloge Enza Yamissi.

The FCF calls for avoiding any action likely to create an unnecessary crisis between the Ministry of Sports and the body in charge of managing Central African football.

As a reminder, Song was appointed by the country’s Minister of Sports after Cameroon decided not to renew his contract following the elimination from the African Cup of Nations in the round of 16 in January last year, when they were beaten 2-0 by Nigeria.
