César Huerta was presented this Tuesday at a press conference at Lotto Park. The Mexican, very smiling, left a great impression but also knows that a lot will be expected of him.
The last time a press conference attracted so many journalists to Lotto Park, it must have been for the arrival of Jan Vertonghen, or even for that of Vincent Kompany. Half the Anderlecht press room was filled with Mexican journalists, proof of just how high the expectations around Cesar Huerta are high.
In terms of communication, Huerta has a huge advantage: his smile. For the rest, beyond “hi, nice to meet you”, we had to settle for a press conference in Spanish – a language that several players speak in the Anderlecht locker room, fortunately. “Some teammates are already trying to speak to me in Spanish, so it’s also up to me to learn English as quickly as possible,” recognizes César Huerta.
The smile, as we said, is there: Huerta is happy to be there. “From the first day, Anderlecht showed that they really wanted me. There were other clubs interested, but Anderlecht is the biggest club in Belgium, that convinced me quickly. Liverpool? I also heard these rumors, but there wasn’t much truth to it.”
One more creative player for Anderlecht
On a footballing level, the RSCA could use a little more creativity, and Huerta should bring that. “My style is to always have fun, to move forward. I like one-on-one,” explains the Mexican, who has good news for his coach: he is versatile.
“I can play in all three attacking positions. I played behind the striker in Mexico, although yes, I mostly play on the left,” he concedes. “And in the selection, I often play on the right. If someone compares me to Mohamed Salah? (laughs) It’s mainly because of my hair… But he’s a player that I admire, of course.” The player’s nickname also comes from this haircut, “chino” being a term of affection for people with curly hair.
Huerta’s debut will be coming soon, but in the meantime, he will have to adapt alone: his mother, who accompanied him for the signing of his contract, has returned to Mexico. “She has always supported me during my career. Unfortunately, we have just experienced a difficult moment with the death of my grandmother. But now, I have a guardian angel up there,” he concludes. The whole of Lotto Park hopes so!
