The Pro League resumed its rights this weekend. Some people wouldn’t have missed it for anything.
After the few seasons spent by the Beerschot in D1B, the city of Antwerp was once again entitled to its derby this season. An event eagerly awaited by supporters of both camps.
In Kiel, DAZN cameras captured the presence of Ritchie De Laet with the visiting supporters. Retired last summer, the former Antwerp defender seems to be enjoying his new life to the fullest.
The match of the year, on the field and in the stands
The man with 219 matches for Antwerp seemed particularly cheerful, a beer in one hand, an inflatable ball in the other, before joining the other supporters in the visiting block, a few meters from his former teammates.
It was even quite comical that coach Jonas De Roeck and several team executives came to the foot of the stand to calm their supporters when the situation began to get tense, probably without suspecting that De Laet was part of it.
A week ago, Ritchie DeLaet left his job as Antwerp youth coach, not liking the workload in the evenings and weekends. But he confirmed that the Great Old remained the club of his heart. His presence with the hard core was undoubtedly the best illustration of this.
