The capital club has given its support to its Portuguese full-back following insulting and racist remarks on Saturday, after the victory against Brest.
“Racism has no place in football”. An obvious fact recalled by PSG this Sunday. However, this is not understood by everyone, especially on social networks… Nuno Mendes was the victim of racist insults on Instagram on Saturday, after the Parisian victory over Brest (3-1), at the Parc des Princes, during the fourth day of Ligue 1. The Portuguese relayed one of these messages in a story (see below). “Paris Saint-Germain gives its full support to its player Nuno Mendes, who was the target of insulting and racist comments on social media on the sidelines of last night’s match against Stade Brestois.”we can read in a press release published this Sunday afternoon by the club, recalling that PSG “does not tolerate any form of racism, anti-Semitism or any other form of discrimination”.
And to continue: “The racial abuse directed at Nuno Mendes is completely unacceptable. We stand firmly behind Nuno and all those involved, and are working with the relevant authorities and associations to hold those responsible accountable. At Paris Saint-Germain, we are committed to fostering an environment of inclusion, respect and unity both on and off the pitch. Racism has no place in football and we will continue to uphold the values of tolerance and respect that define our club.”. Replaced shortly after the hour mark by newcomer Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes, 22, won a penalty in the first half against Brest, his second outing of the season in Ligue 1 after the 6-0 win against Montpellier.
