Sidney Crosby, the ninth highest scorer of all time

Last night, the Canadian did not play, even though it was Thursday.

20 teams were in action, however.

Here are the results and highlights:

1. Sidney Crosby, the ninth highest scorer of all time

To become the ninth highest scorer in NHL history, Sidney Crosby only needed two small points.

And he collected his two points in the first period. The Penguins captain surpassed Joe Sakic with 1,642 points. Not bad!

He still has a lot of crusts to eat before catching up with a certain Mario Lemieux.

At the end of 87’s career, where will he stand in this ranking?

As for the match against the Oilers, Pittsburgh started the match strong by scoring four goals in the first period.

And in the second period, Sid even scored the team’s fifth goal, which brought his total points to 1643.

In the 5-3 loss, Leon Draisaitl became the first player in 2024-25 to score 30 goals.

He finished the game with two goals, his 30th and 31st goals of the campaign.

2. 10 points in 10 games for Jonathan Drouin

Since being in Colorado, Jonathan Drouin has relaunched his career.

His 56 points last year earned him another contract in the montages and this year, even if he doesn’t play much, he stands out. The games in which he is in uniform, he collects points.

In 10 games this season, the Quebecer has 10 points. Yesterday, in a 6-1 Avalanche victory in Minnesota, he recorded two assists.

It was a night to forget for the Wild at home.

Firstly, the club only had one professional goalkeeper in uniform.

And the only goalie who was healthy, Filip Gustavsson, allowed six goals on 27 shots.

We can’t say that he was helped by his teammates…

3. A first NHL goal for Denton Mateychuk

When we think of future good NHL defensemen, it’s rare that the name Denton Mateychuk comes to mind.

But it certainly shouldn’t be forgotten, because it has a bright future. Yesterday, he scored his first goal in his eighth NHL game.

Moments before, another Jackets defender made his presence felt.

Zach Werenski scored a goal and thus continued his streak of games with at least one point at home to 16.

The Jackets finally pulverized the Kraken by a score of 6-2 and like the Penguins, they moved away to within three points of CH.

Columbus (tied with Pittsburgh) occupies the last place giving access to the playoffs.

4. Already 20 career shutouts for Ilya Sorokin

In the late night game, the Islanders were visiting the Golden Knights.

New York won the game 4-0. 30 save performance for Ilya Sorokin who collected the 20th shutout of his career.

He became the second goalkeeper to reach this plateau the fastest (222 games).

There was nothing for the locals to do: the Russian was unbeatable.

Unlike Gustavsson (Wild), Sorokin had help from his teammates.

Anders Lee first opened the scoring in his 800th NHL game.

And in the second period, Bo Horvat tripled his team’s lead.

5. Minus-3 record for Matvei Michkov

It’s important to mention that I’m not the biggest fan of the plus/minus (+/-) stat.

This is not what will necessarily determine the impact of a player, especially if he plays for a team that is too strong or too weak. But in the case of Matvei Michkov, we still have to talk about it, because things are going badly at this level.

Yesterday, he finished the game (4-1 loss) against the Stars with a minus-3 record.

And in his last 12 games, he is minus-17. It’s cold…

Even though he had an extraordinary season, the Russian has slowed down in recent times, so much so that he has 29 points in 40 games.

He has no points in his last five games and only two in his last 13 games.

If at the start of the season he was favorite for the Calder, recently he has slipped.

Lane Hutson and Macklin Celebrini are in front of him right now. It’s up to him to bounce back.
