On Wednesday, the Union was unceremoniously eliminated from the cup by Antwerp. The Brussels club, however, received some good news, Loïc Lapoussin having celebrated his return in the last moments of the game. But what is the future of the 28-year-old Malagasy agitator?
After a failed transfer, Lapoussin started the season for disciplinary reasons in core B, where Sébastien Pocognoli picked him up at the beginning of November. The return of the dribbler, who had promised at the time to improve his life, was only short-lived.
Last months at Parc Duden?
Indeed, even before the New Year, Lapoussin was sidelined after missing a few training sessions. In the meantime, Pocognoli has already put the incident behind him, but according to Het Nieuwsblad, he still seems to be living out his last months at Parc Duden.
“The Union hoped to sell Lapoussin for around two million last summer, but the deal did not materialize. For the moment, there is no immediate concrete interest,” specifies the newspaper, which adds that it is unlikely that a solution will be found in January.
Next summer, on the other hand, the 18-cap international could even be available for free, after having scored 16 goals and provided 27 assists in 173 appearances.
Unilateral option
Indeed, it is on this date that his contract with the Brussels residents will expire. The Union has a unilateral option to extend it by one year. The question is whether this option will be exercised before the March 31 deadline.
“The possibility that the Union will let his contract expire so that he can leave for free after this season is not ruled out by the club,” the newspaper concludes. Curious to see if anyone will knock on his door by then…
