None of the three games played last night in the NHL had an impact on the playoff race in the East; the Canadian still occupies 11th place in the East, just one small point from a playoff spot.
But the Senators, Bruins, Lightning, Rangers, Flyers, Penguins, Islanders and Blue Jackets will all be in action tonight. The Canadian, who will only take over tomorrow evening in Washington, could therefore go down a little further in the rankings.
Not enough to relieve friend Gonzo, but hey…
We know: Richard Labbé likes tweeter on climate and American politics The Canadian has not been the same since Patrik Laine’s return to the game.
Before December 3, the date of Laine’s first game, CH had a record of 8-13-3.
From ? 11-5.
And if we don’t take into account the three games that Laine missed due to the flu/gastroas well as the one where he only played a short period (in Columbus), the CH won nine games, then only lost three.
But it’s not just the season of Habs which Laine revived. Non !
On December 23, Patrik Laine threw some of his former teammates under the bus by claiming – a few hours before the CH-Blue Jackets game in Ohio – that some Blue Jackets players didn’t hate losing enough and were giving up. too early in the season.
His former teammates therefore did not hesitate to hit him (especially on the shoulder on which he had surgery less than a year ago) during the first period of the match on December 23. You know the rest: Laine did not finish the match.
The Blue Jackets won the game, then they restarted their season.
The proof?
Before December 23: 13-15-6 record, eighth worst in the entire NHL. The club had only won two of its 11 matches before the arrival of the Canadian.
From December 23 to today: 5-2-0 record, seventh best in the entire Bettman circuit.
Without wanting to, Patrik Laine managed to unite the team he criticized. It’s not just the season of Habs which he revived. A real little magician, this Laine…
Unfortunately, the Blue Jackets currently occupy one of the playoff spots coveted by the Habs. Laine, however, did not wake up the right “horse” with his exit…
Note that the Canadiens and the Blue Jackets have already played their three scheduled games against each other this season. We will have to wait until next year (or playoffsyou never know) so that Laine has the « chance » to face his old team.
I wonder if we are going to reuse the tribute video which we had prepared for Laine – but which we never used – the next season. #Not
Since we are talking about the Blue Jackets, my colleague Charles-Alexis Brisebois wrote a text this morning on the chances of seeing Mathieu Olivier come to Montreal. Spoiler alert: they are getting weaker and weaker.
Olivier will therefore be able to hit Laine again next year.
Prolongation
Several players stood up this season – following the death of Johnny Gaudreau – and took charge for the Blue Jackets.
Zach Werenski (46 points in 41 games), Kirill Marchensko (45 points in 41 games)… and Sean Monahan (41 points in as many games).
Unfortunately, Monahan injured his wrist during the Blue Jackets’ final game on Tuesday night.
The Blue Jackets have just announced that Monahan’s name has been placed on the injured list. The expected length of Monahan’s absence is unknown, but the fact that he was not placed on the long-term injured list, coupled with the emergency call-up of Owen Sillinger to replace him, has what give a little hope to Blue Jackets fans. Remember that Monahan had a wrist scan yesterday; let’s hope he can avoid the operating table.
Some things will never change.
