Chadi Riad returned to the field by playing a match with the Crystal Palace reserve team against Fulham on Monday. The match, which ended in a heavy defeat (0-4) for Palace, marks the player’s return after a long absence due to injury.
Starting this match, Riad was replaced in the 63rd minute by the Englishman Kaiden Rodney. This appearance constitutes his first official competition since his recovery. He was also on the first team’s substitute list for the match against Chelsea in the Premier League last Saturday, a match which ended in a draw (1-1) on matchday 20.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has stressed that Chadi Riad needs more game time and specific training to regain his place in the first team.
“After a long period of inactivity, he needs to get back into rhythm and work to reach a competitive level in the Premier League,” he told the English site News Shopper.
Glasner also specified that the medical and technical staff are developing a suitable program so that Riad can come back stronger. “Chadi has interesting qualities to defend the colors of the team. We give him confidence by gradually integrating him into the group. Although he hasn’t worked with us much recently, he is making steady progress,” added Glasner.
As a reminder, Chadi Riad joined Crystal Palace during the last summer transfer window from Real Betis, with a contract running until June 30, 2029.
