HC Fribourg-Gottéron experienced its first setback of the year 2025 at Ambri. Ironically, it was former Dragon Chris DiDomenico who allowed the Leventins to win 2-1 on penalties. Genève-Servette HC lost 3-2 to CP Berne in Les Vernets.
DiDomenico joined northern Ticino at the end of October from Friborg and it was he who precipitated the Dragons’ first fall in 2025. The 35-year-old Canadian striker scored twice, and with style, during the penalty sessions. On the Friborg side, only Marcus Sörensen, already author of the 1-1 in the 38th minute, was able to deceive the excellent Gilles Senn.
Geneva on alternating current
Dominant, the Fribourgeoises missed the boat during the first 40 minutes. They entered the final third with a score of 1-1 even though they had shot four times more than the Ticinese (21-5). They were almost punished but Reto Berra was saved by his crossbar in the final period.
Genève-Servette still operates on alternating current. Victorious against the Langnau Tigers on Sunday, they did not manage to continue. Austin Czarnik’s 3-1 in an ultra-fast transition phase allowed the Bears of the capital to ensure their success. Teemu Hartikainen’s reduction in the score, 22 seconds from the end, came too late.
