Even though it will soon be 10 years since PK Subban was traded, the former defenseman remains a very popular figure in Montreal. His charisma ensured that he won the hearts of the fans… but he was also a very electrifying defender.
Sometimes he was perhaps a little too much… but he still had some good years in town.
Today, Subban is retired and has a career in the media world. That said, he still loves Montreal as much as Montreal loves him… and that, McDonald’s understood it well.
The fast food chain unveiled a new ad (in French) today… and in it, the former defender is the judge of a “style competition” between Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews.
And in the commercial, which you can watch below, we notice that Subban speaks in French, while he asks the guys to have “more style”… before finding the “style” he is looking for at the end of advertisement.
The commercial also has an English variant in which McDavid and Matthews face off again… but where Subban (and Pierre Houde, whose voice is present in the French version) are not there.
This therefore means that the company specifically chose Subban to sell in Quebec. This clearly demonstrates the popularity of the defender.
Obviously, McDonald’s and the Canadian have been teaming up for years to make advertisements. Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher, Jeff Petry, Tyler Toffoli, Cole Caufield and so on: they are very many to have done commercials for the fast food chain.
The company knows that the Canadian sells… and in Subban, we are banking on one of the most popular faces of the last 15 years in town.
Note also that at the very end of the advertisement, we present a hamburger which refers to McDavid and another which refers to Matthews… but we also present the Poutine P.K.so much so that the former defender is also associated with a product of the company.
It’s a good idea for McDonald’s to partner with Subban. Let’s see if it pays off now.
