NFL: Chris Grier reassuring towards Tyreek Hill, but critical of Tua Tagovailoa

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tyreek Hill did not request a trade during his recent meeting with the wide receiver who expressed frustration at the end of the season on Sunday and left hearing that he might want to play elsewhere next season.

Grier said he and coach Mike McDaniel had “productive conversations” with the receiver this week, but said Hill did not walk back his comments from Sunday. Hill himself left the 32-20 fourth-quarter loss to the New York Jets.

McDaniel assured that his relationship with Hill is good, but that the two need to “burst the abscess.”

“We discussed several topics frankly, … including that it was unacceptable for him to leave a meeting of his own accord and that it would not be accepted in the future,” McDaniel said. For his part, he accepts responsibility. I wouldn’t say there was anything that needed fixing, but we needed to clear the air quickly following this tumultuous situation. »

McDaniel explained that there wasn’t necessarily anything to work out with Hill, but that the meeting was important to clear things up.

Grier also made harsh comments about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed six games this season due to injury – four while he was on the injured list with a concussion and the last two games due to a hip injury.

“He must be available. He must know how to protect himself… He understands that not being available after taking risks is not acceptable for us,” he said.
