Is Joan Laporta's management making Barça “the laughing stock of the whole world”?

Is Joan Laporta's management making Barça “the laughing stock of the whole world”?

The production of the first semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, Wednesday (8 p.m.) in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), risks having fun by multiplying the off-field shots on two Barça players. Because the situation of Dani Olmo and Victor, from the trip but now banned from official competition in the Blaugrana jersey for economic reasons, is not trivial.

At the heart of this incredible imbroglio which led to the deregistration of the squad at the end of December of the two summer recruits Dani Olmo (6 goals in 15 games in the first part of the season) and Pau Victor (2 goals in 17 appearances) is obviously Joan Laporta. The media Sport announced Monday evening that the controversial Catalan president would face a motion of censure this Tuesday that could remove him from his post.

Often brilliant during the first part of the season with Barça, Dani Olmo no longer has the right to participate in La Liga this season in the Blaugrana jersey, which triggered a colossal crisis within the Catalan club. - M. Mirville/ZUMA Press Wire/Shutterstock/Sipa

The socios ready to precipitate the fall of Laporta?

Just like his predecessor Josep Maria Bartomeu, he notably suffered the wrath of Jordi Farré, Barça's social icon at the initiative of such a motion having precipitated a change in the management of the club in 2020. The process permitted by the statutes of the FC Barcelona is as simple as it is sharp: Jordi Farré can send a letter to the club's board of directors to describe the reasons which prompted him to formulate a motion of censure.

If a fortnight later, 16,521 ballots approving this motion are collected and validated, the equivalent of 15% of Barça members able to vote, the CA will have to decide for good the fate of the current president by a vote. For this final step, at least two thirds of the members of the board of directors must vote in favor of this motion of censure so that Joan Laporta's second reign (after 2003-2010) is immediately over.

This Tuesday morning, Mark nevertheless indicates that Jordi Farré has not yet appeared as expected at the Camp Nou to activate this motion of censure. On Sunday, ten groups of supporters opposed to the management of Joan Laporta had for their part published a press release to demand his immediate resignation, or at least a vote of confidence that he can trigger. “We need people with energy to give life to an entity that must be managed professionally,” point out these groups of socios, insisting on the “negligence” concerning the contracts of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.

“We will no longer talk about jugglers but about clowns”

Remember that the latter can currently join the club of their choice, after having been recruited for 55 and 3.2 million euros respectively this summer. Joan Laporta's change of heart at the last minute in order to block the return to Barça's basketball section of French playmaker Thomas Heurtel on Friday, a player with “questionable honor” according to these same social groups, hardly attenuates the current slingshot aimed at him.

We might as well tell you that even the prospect of a new Clasico in the final of the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday will go almost unnoticed in the face of this burning news in the offices on the Catalan side. And support for the 62-year-old leader's camp is becoming rare, as evidenced by the bloody salvo thrown Monday evening at the Diari ARA media by Jaume Giró, his right-hand man during his campaign for the 2021 election.

« Jugglers and tightrope walkers have taken over the reins of the club. Convinced of their abilities, they walk on a tightrope without a net, without a bar to stabilize themselves and, worse, without balance. If things continue like this, we will no longer speak of jugglers but of clowns. We won't be far from being the laughing stock of the whole world, if we haven't already. »

“Intolerable that he offers this image”

More expected, the former candidate for the presidency of FC Barcelona Victor Font had slipped last week in an open letter, in the midst of Dani Olmo's shockwave: “It is intolerable that the highest manager of Barça acts in this way and offers this image.

The future of Barça's Laporta version now seems to hang on a thread as fragile as the manager's recent commitment to sell for more than 100 million euros the twenty-year operation of the VIP boxes at the future Camp Nou to a Qatari consortium in order to to save what can still be saved from the club's finances. Like this current third place in La Liga, far from the dream summer debut with Hansi Flick, tightrope walking with Catalan sauce is showing its limits more than ever.
