TRIBUNE – To sustainably rebuild the French territory damaged by Cyclone Chido, it is necessary to combine the mobilization of public authorities with an effective fight against illegal immigration and a significant increase in means of action, argue the Ministers of the Interior and of the Armies.

In Mayotte, this French territory devastated by Cyclone Chido, our two ministries, the Interior and the Armed Forces, are fully mobilized to help the affected populations. Soldiers, police, civil security and prefectural administration personnel: all were immediately engaged to respond to the humanitarian emergency. But everyone, too, has noted this terrible reality, which we must face: in this tragedy, migratory disorders have made everything worse. Because the “bangas”, these tin shanty towns where illegal immigration was concentrated, were literally blown away by the cyclone.

The suffering of Mayotte did not begin with this natural disaster: for too long, our Mayotte compatriots have lived on a daily basis the disastrous consequences of migratory chaos, whether security, health or social, despite a strengthening resources mobilized…
