Looking to the future, Switzerland covets the future organization of two very major sporting events: the 2030 European Championships and the 2038 Winter Olympic Games (which the IOC is willing to entrust to it). The idea is that both would build on the skills acquired from hosting many other major competitions in a range of different disciplines. The year 2025 will offer a good sample of this with no less than six major international gatherings in addition to two federal festivals which, by their scale and the crowds they attract, have little to envy.
