Will Marco Odermatt make history at the Sports Awards on Sunday? The Nidwalden skier could become the first to successfully complete the four pass during this ceremony which rewards the best athletes of the year.

Marco Odermatt could, in fact, be honored for a 4th consecutive year, a performance that Vreni Schneider, 5 times winner, and, above all, Roger Federer who was named sportsman of the year… 7 times have not accomplished . In 2005, the Basel tennis player was beaten to everyone’s surprise by Tom Lüthi, 125cc world champion.

After having signed last year the 3rd hat-trick in the history of the Sports Awards to equal the cyclist Tony Rominger (1992/1993/1994) and the gymnast Ariella Kaeslin (2008/2009/2010), Marco Odermatt is still favored by the prognosis. The skier won a new World Cup at the end of a successful winter.

Noè Ponti “victim” of the regulation

Triple short course world champion last month in Budapest, Noè Ponti could have been on the same line as the Nidwalden. However, it is the results obtained between November 2023 and October 2024 that are taken into account for these Awards. Furthermore, the Ticino native failed to reach the podium at the Games.

The four other nominees are the athletes Dominic Lobalu and Simon Ehammer and 2 medalists at the Paris Games, the Jura rider Steve Guerdat and the Geneva swimmer Roman Mityukov.
