Times are tough for Philippe Clement at Rangers. But he presented himself as determined as ever at the press conference.
With a record of one point from six against St. Mirren and Motherwell, fourteen points behind first place Celtic, Philippe Clement did not spend the holidays with a smile on his face. But at a press conference, he reaffirmed his commitment to putting the team back on track.
“I took on the challenge with all my energy. I know that criticism is part of the game when you don’t get results. Everyone at the club knows the plan to get back to the forefront. We are on the right track way, with young talents” he declared.
The response, however, did not entirely convince the journalists present. He was then asked if he still approached the situation with the same passion as when he arrived: “Even with more passion than when I started” replied Clément. “When I arrived, I didn’t know the supporters, the staff, the players… There, I see what everyone is doing here to get back to the level we want to reach.”
Always more contested
But the questions asked were increasingly difficult. Another journalist criticized our compatriot for too often rotating the team on the advice of his medical staff. “I certainly don’t follow everything they tell me. Sometimes I push players beyond their limits, but it’s a risk,” he retorted.
The former coach of Club de Bruges did not, however, hide his weariness with such insinuations: “It’s also my responsibility if they get hurt. I’m not really surprised that there are comments on this subject, it must be difficult to understand if you have never played at this level it’s very simple: can you name a player who has played every match this season?
