Today, let’s look back at an episode that is both promising and pleasing, but also frustrating.
On August 29, Servette FC welcomed Chelsea to the Stade de la Praille, in front of 28,000 spectators who came to support their team. After a 2-0 first-leg defeat in the Conference League play-offs, the Garnets had only one option: make up ground to secure a place in Europe, or follow the matches from home.
The match begins in an electric atmosphere, typical of a beautiful summer evening. The supporters, even if they have little faith in a reversal of the situation, are there to encourage their team until the end. However, the euphoria quickly subsided when the Genevans conceded a penalty in the 15th minute, converted by Christopher Nkunku.
The Garnet’s reaction of pride
Despite this hard blow, the Garnet players did not give up and created several chances. Their perseverance was finally rewarded when Dereck Kutesa made a nice breakthrough from midfield to serve Jérémy Guillemenot in the area, who equalized with a precise shot. The teams return to the locker room with a tie score, 1-1.
After the break, Chelsea attacked, but without much threat to the Geneva defense. It was against the run of play that, in the 72nd minute, Enzo Crivelli, served by Miroslav Stevanović, placed an unstoppable header into the back of the net. This goal gives hope to the Servetti supporters, who begin to dream. The stadium explodes, the atmosphere becomes boiling, as the clock progresses and the opportunities multiply without success.
A lesson in honor and courage
To add to this intense atmosphere, the garnet supporters set off fireworks, lighting up the Geneva sky. A memorable image: that of Cole Palmer, sitting on the ball near the corner post, and Christopher Nkunku, contemplating the explosions of light in the sky.
The game resumes with a final opportunity for Timothé Cognat, whose shot passes a few centimeters from the post. The final whistle sounded with a score of 2-1 for Servette, a prestigious victory against a team with an impressive European record.
Unfortunately, it is not enough to ensure qualification for the Conference League. Servette will not play Europe, but that evening, the Garnets made us dream, and that’s all we will remember.

This evening of August 29 will remain engraved in the memories of Servette FC supporters. Although the European adventure ends at the gates of the Conference League, the Geneva club has proven that it can stand up to a football giant like Chelsea.
This victory, even insufficient for qualification, embodies the spirit of combativeness and resilience of the Garnets, who offered their fans an evening rich in emotions and hope. Servette may not have reached Europe, but this match will remain as a symbol of their ability to dream and surprise.
