Crisis in Lommel: 44 million debts and layoffs in perspective

The Challenger Pro League has already been deeply disrupted this season by the bankruptcy of KMSK Deinze. The financial situation of several other clubs is worrying. The annual accounts of Lommel, for example, are also in the red.

Lommel remains in the red

Despite City Group’s capital increase of 15 million euros last season and 17.5 million euros in transfers, Lommel again recorded a heavy loss. This is what Het Belang van Limburg reports.

In total, Lommel recorded a deficit of 8.5 million euros in the previous financial year. The club’s mountain of debts therefore already amounts to more than 44 million euros. While it was only 2 million when City intervened four years ago.

Double dismissal imminent

This is a new disappointment for Lommel, where things are not getting better on the sporting level either. The club finished 2024 with a paltry score of one point out of fifteen, dropping them to eighth place in the Challenger Pro League.

This will not be without consequences, since the dismissal of coach Steve Bould and sporting director James McCarron would be imminent. Real Madrid resumes the championship on January 3 at Valencia.
