Jean Alesi enjoyed the 2024 F1 season, with a fight for world titles. The former French driver was impressed by Max Verstappen’s ability to defend his title while his team was struggling, and even in crisis.
“I think we should always consider the benefits that sport brings us. In this case, two hard-fought championships, at last” said Alesi, who appreciated the thin suspense for the drivers’ title.
“It was not a given to see Verstappen in crisis, threatened in the race for the drivers’ title, and it was very interesting to see his reaction within a team in difficulty. He offered the best of his talent and this success really counts as a definitive consecration.”
Ralf Schumacher thinks that Verstappen has an ability that few drivers have to sublimate a less efficient car: “It just shows that he makes the difference. Max Verstappen is really able to bring that extra knowledge that these exceptionally talented world champions before him had.”
“There aren’t many of them, and honestly, I don’t count Lewis Hamilton among them. He is certainly an exception, but he, like Sebastian Vettel, always needs the perfect environment and car. But Max Verstappen, with what he achieved this year in these circumstances… the difficulties with Christian Horner, the departure of Adrian Newey.”
The German was impressed by the performances of the four-time reigning world champion: “The car was superior at the start, but then it was a disaster. Yet Max rose to the occasion and has always delivered. And if you compare him to his teammate, it’s still incredible. “
