Henry Arundell could return to England at the end of the season. The Bath club would be ready to take out the checkbook to recruit the England international, under contract with Racing 92 until 2026.
Arriving at Racing last summer following the disappearance of London Irish, Arundell signed a contract until 2026 with the French club. But will he leave the Paris region before this date? Bath have made an offer to the winger, according to our colleagues at Rugby Pass.
Bath would like to offer him a hybrid contract in collaboration with the RFU (English Federation), a method allowing the salary cost to be shared while granting the player a place in the English championship. An offer that could convince Henry Arundell, especially in view of his ambitions with the XV de la Rose.
A contrasting start to the season in the Top 14
It must be said that the English international winger or full-back (22 years old, 10 caps) made an impression last year. First in the World Cup, where he distinguished himself with a quintuple against Chile. Then, quickly after the World Cup, he established himself within Racing 92 by proving decisive: 10 tries in 19 matches. This season is a little more mixed, with a great start (tests in Castres and against Clermont), and a slightly more mixed sequel, linked to the checkered results of his team.
For Bath the arrival of Arundell would be a good solution to fill an urgent need at the back. The club also has Willie Le Roux or Santi Carreras in its sights but Arundell’s very explosive profile would correspond to their project.
What about Racing 92?
The possible departure of Arundell would be a hard blow for Racing, already weakened by the announcement of the transfer of Nolann Le Garrec to La Rochelle. The club, which was counting on the English nugget for the coming seasons, will perhaps find itself obliged to rethink its strategy.
A decision expected in the coming months
As Bath ramps up efforts to attract Arundell, the next few months will be decisive. The player will have to choose between continuing the adventure in the Top 14 or answering the call of Bath and the Premiership. An affair to follow closely for supporters of the two clubs but also for fans of the XV de la Rose.
