There were five NHL games last night.
The attention of fans in Montreal has been focused on the Justin Barron trade, but oh well.
Let’s see what happened if you missed the action:
1: Sacred Wrongs
The Flyers were visiting Detroit to face the Red Wings.
And in the match, there are especially two easy things to remember.
First of all, it is this magnificent goal scored by Owen Tippett:
Without making too much noise, Tippett is establishing himself as one of the good players in the National League. It’s beautiful to watch!
Late in the game, with a little more than eight minutes remaining and the Flyers trailing by a goal, one of the referees raised his hand to signal a penalty.
The problem?
The referee in question decided to overturn his call… Which you simply never see in the NHL.
John Tortorella was in fine form behind his team’s bench and that’s understandable:
The penalty could have allowed the Flyers to go on the power play and score… But no.
That’s not what ultimately happened and the Flyers lost the game by a score of 6-4.
Note that Matvei Michkov was shut out for a third game in a row in his team’s defeat.
2: Marc-André Fleury continues to fool his opponents
Marc-André Fleury really seems like a good guy.
We know that he likes to play tricks on his teammates and he enjoys doing it.
Except that yesterday, he rather fooled an opponent: while Evan Rodrigues was in front of him, the goalkeeper did what he could to block his view.
From the great Marc-André Fleury:
The Wild lost 6-1 to the Panthers, but Fleury can still be happy because he reached third place for goalies with the most career starts in the National League.
He passed Patrick Roy in this regard, and he could beat Roberto Luongo’s mark before the end of the season. He has 10 starts left before joining Luongo:
3: Sergachev is a hero this morning
Things are going well for Mikhail Sergachev since he was traded to Utah in the last draft.
The big defenseman had 22 points in 30 games before facing the Canucks last night, and he added a goal to his record.
The one who was already part of the Canadian organization scored in overtime to allow his club to win 3-2:
Sergachev is installed as the 1st defender in André Tourigny’s formation.
He is an important piece for the club, we saw him last night because he is capable of making the difference in a match.
4: The Ducks can say thank you to Terry and Dostal
Usually, when a club scores with 26 seconds remaining to take a 3-2 lead in a game, they are in a position to go for the win.
That’s what happened in Anaheim last night.
Troy Terry found the back of the net with little time left on the clock to put his club ahead against the Jets:
But the Ducks still got hot.
For what?
Because after Terry’s goal… The Jets almost managed to tie the score with a breakaway.
Lukas Dostal, who is having a magnificent season, closed the door and the Ducks won the game by a score of 3-2:
5: Big victory for the Leafs
We were perhaps witnessing a preview of the Stanley Cup final between the Leafs and the Stars, two clubs that have been doing well since the start of the season.
But the Stars had difficulty breaking through the Leafs defense.
This is partly thanks to Joseph Woll, who was really in good shape:
Woll stopped 38 of the 41 shots aimed at him to sign the victory (5-3).
After the match, Craig Berube threw flowers at his goalkeeper saying that he was the best player of the match.
Note that this is a 20th victory for the Leafs and that William Nylander scored his 20th goal of the season for the occasion:
Prolongation
