The club from the north of England announced this Thursday in a press release.

The takeover of Everton by the American group Friedkin, owner of AS Roma, has obtained the approval of the competent authorities and is now finalized, the club announced on Thursday. «Toffees» from Liverpool. The takeover, announced in September, received the green light from the Premier League, the English Federation and British financial authorities, among others.

The club founded in 1878 belonged to Farhad Moshiri, an Iranian-British businessman, who entered the capital in 2016 and became a minority shareholder, up to 94%, in 2022. It passes into the hands of the Friedkin Group, already owner of AS Rome, in Serie A, and AS , in National 2. This outcome puts an end to a turbulent sales process for the club Mersey. Negotiations with Friedkin failed the first time, and other potential buyers failed to complete the deal, such as 777 Partners or John Textor, the owner of OL.

A founding member of the English championship, Everton is one of the most successful clubs with nine crowns. Only Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have more. The blue-shirted club, however, last won the championship in 1987, and their trophy cabinet has been gathering dust since 1995.

Everton in great difficulty

Its longevity in the elite of English football has lasted for 70 years, but the ax of relegation has come close in recent years. Added to these sporting difficulties is a difficult economic situation for the Mersey club. Last season, Everton were deducted eight points in the standings for recording losses above the threshold allowed by the English League.

The team led by Sean Dyche, sixteenth with 15 points, is only three points ahead of the current first relegated team, Ipswich Town, before the 17th day. She played one less match, however.
