La Gantoise plays its last match in the Conference League championship phase this Thursday evening. They travel to Larne, Northern Ireland. A special trip, to then arrive at a club where the pitch could hardly be in worse condition.
La Gantoise plays away on Thursday against Larne. The Northern Irish club has not yet taken a single point in the Europa Conference League and only occupies 9th place in its own championship.
An ideal opportunity for the Buffalos to shine. However, everything is not in their favor: the land is in fact in a lamentable state…
“The pitch is a real scandal here. It’s catastrophic,” the coach began Wouter Vrancken according to VTM. “There’s very little grass and on top of that, it’s very uneven.”
“It doesn’t really work in our favor, but once the match starts we have to put that aside. Our self-confidence must also not collapse because of situations where the pitch gets in our way.”
However, Ghent would do well to win. The club still has a chance to reach the top 8 and qualify directly for the next round, but it must not be trapped by the bad terrain.
“Even if there is only a small chance left, we have to try to take it. And that starts with getting three points here, then hoping for a little luck in the other confrontations. If possible, it is better to win here with the largest possible goal gap,” he concludes.
