As part of a contract with the eco-organization Alcome, the City of Épinal has just launched a new hunting operation against wild cigarette butts this Tuesday: 1,500 pocket ashtrays are being made available to tobacconists for their customers.
Good news: pocket ashtrays are made available by the City free of charge in most tobacco shops in Epinal, as part of an agreement with the eco-organization Alcome! These metal poached ashtrays are stamped “My butt where it belongs”, named after the national campaign led by Alcome, which aims to reduce misdisposed butts by 40% by 2027.
The operation was presented this Tuesday morning at one of the participating tobacconists, Philippe Thiriet at “Khédive”, rue des Petites boucheries, by Dominique Andrès, deputy mayor of Épinal in charge of ecological transition and sustainable development. Awareness posters accompany the distribution of pocket ashtrays.
The stock of pocket ashtrays made available by the City to Spinal tobacconists will be replenished if necessary. A sample is also available at the reception / one-stop shop at the town hall for individuals, always free of charge. In 2025, the City plans to distribute these pocket ashtrays to bars/restaurants.
As a reminder, the municipality had already distributed some 4,000 pocket ashtrays in 2019, in addition to a poster campaign against incivility, one of the components of which focused on the fight against cigarette butts. The City has also put in place “fun” urban extinguishers in 2023.
A cigarette butt takes 12 years to completely degrade… So during your walks, keep cigarette butts in a pocket ashtray before throwing them in the trash when you get home!
