Last rush before the end-of-year holidays – Lausanne HC

Back from the international break, our Lions are more motivated than ever to end the year 2024 in the best way. With 4 matches to be played in 6 days, it is against HC Ambri-Piotta that the Lausannois begin their series of matches this Wednesday, December 18 at the Vaudoise arena. Start of the meeting scheduled for 7:45 p.m. The pre-match is presented to you by our main partner, Vaudoise assurances.

Stability to regain

Let’s not be negative, our Lions have had a very convincing start to the season, despite the numerous injuries to the squad during the month of November. With 50 points won in 28 matches, Lausanne Hockey Club has firmly established itself in the top quartet of the championship, accompanied by ZSC Lions, HC Davos and SC Bern. With significant changes within their squad during the summer break, our Lions were able to make their transition while performing sportingly.

However, each season has its share of uncertainties with the consequence of influencing the good dynamics and the people of Lausanne have paid the price in recent meetings. With 7 major injuries scattered throughout the month of November, the Lausanne staff had to tighten up these troops and fill in the gaps, greatly destabilizing its defensive force. Recent returns to the gameAndrea Glauser, Lukas Frick et d’Ahti Oksanen are probably what the team needed most to reform a very disciplined team, capable of turning things around after 4 defeats in the last 5 meetings.

Lausanne HC (3ème – 50 points)

  • 28 matches played, 17 victories (including 2 in overtime and 2 on penalties) and 11 defeats (including 2 on penalties and 1 in overtime)
  • 85 goals scored and 83 goals conceded
  • 29.33% efficiency in powerplay and 79.78% efficiency in boxplay
  • 904 shots taken on goal (9.18% efficiency)

HC Ambri-Piotta (8th – 39 points)

  • 28 matches played, 13 victories (including 4 in overtime and 3 on penalties) and 15 defeats (including 7 in overtime.
  • 77 goals scored and 87 goals conceded
  • 17% efficiency in powerplay and 73.97% efficiency in boxplay
  • 870 shots taken on goal (8.51% efficiency)

Encounters that end on a razor’s edge

The oppositions between the Levantines and the Lions are generally close matches, in which the winner often wins on the razor’s edge. Over the last 6 confrontations, it is on 5 occasions that the two teams left with a single length lead (including three after regulation time) with the only exception, the match of February 23 which ended with a clear victory at home (4-1 LHC).

This match will therefore be decided on details, as is often the case in the end. The guardians, through Kevin Pasche and/orAnthony Kellerwill have the mission to keep their team in the match as long as possible. Offensively, the returns of the many selected for the national team will do good for the Lausanne squad and will, perhaps, allow us not to have a delay in starting, the time to properly get into the match. As a result, the two best scorers of the Vaud team Antti Suomela (9 buts et 16 assists) et Damien Riat (9 goals and 12 assists), will be keen to give their team the advantage.

On the Ticino side, several offensive players can be mentioned as players to watch. Also returned from his selection for the Czech national team, Dominic Cuban remains the strong man of the Levantine team (12 achievements). After confirming that he would not return to the NHL by the end of the season, the team Luca Cereda holds in his hands the strong man who can take them to the next level this season. It is also certain that the presence of Chris DiDomenico will spark at the Vaudoise arena. Well known to spectators at the Vaudoise arena through his past with the Friborg Dragons, the Canadian is just waiting for the trigger to rediscover his former success. Finally, the Finnish defender Jesse Virtanen will be a real threat from the blue line if he has space.

The next meetings of our Lions

The Lausanne Hockey Club will continue its last week of competition of the year with three matches, including two away. With two trips to Davos (Friday December 20) to Langnau (Monday December 23) and the reception of Genève-Servette HC at the Vaudoise arena (Saturday December 21), the Vaudois will have a lot to do in this last rush of 2024.
