Thrills and excitement at the Diochon stadium this Friday, December 20, 2024: at 9 p.m., FC Rouen will try to achieve the feat of eliminating Lille in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France. Despite the two divisions, the red people have good reasons to believe in it. Here are five.
- 1. Fervent support from the publicwith a 12th man who will push the Red Devils to surpass themselves. Fiery atmosphere guaranteed. Captain Clément Bassin’s partners will undoubtedly play in front of nearly 8,000 spectators, their enclosure being almost full this Tuesday, December 17 at the end of the day (only seats remained in the Horlaville stand).
- 2. The positive dynamic of FC Rouenwho has scored four victories since the arrival at the helm of coach Régis Brouard to replace Maxime D’Ornano: three in the league (one away, two at home) and one in the Cup, all while only conceding ‘one goal. The confidence capital is boosted. The local eleven has entered the first half of the National rankings (9th place) and is breathing much better. Having triumphed 2-0 over rival Quevilly Rouen Métropole on its last championship day of the year can give wings to the group.
- 3. The expertise of Régis Brouardwho presents the ideal profile to elevate his protégés to the 1/8 finals of the Coupe de France… and beyond! We owe the ex-SC Bastia coach two historic epics at the head of US Quevilly: until the semi-final in 2010 then until the final in 2012 (after having defeated the reigning French vice-champion Marseille in the quarter-final, then Rennes in the next round).
- 4. The opponent’s euphoric state of mindwhich could work to its disadvantage. LOSC is booming this season, having scored two prestigious Champions League successes at the expense of Real Madrid (1-0 at the Mauroy stadium) and Atletico Madrid (1-3 at Civitas Metropolitano). Coach Bruno Genesio could rotate his squad, which risks having its head elsewhere. It’s not easy to mobilize fully for a 32nd final of the Coupe de France against Rouen when we faced Juventus Turin a month and a half before… Lille, 4th in Ligue 1, three points behind the top three PSG/OM /Monaco has everything to lose in the affair.
- 5. The experience of the Coupe de France 2024who smiled at the Red Devils then led by technician Maxime D’Ornano. Falling on penalties to defending champion Toulouse in the round of 16 and Monaco in the round of 16, FC Rouen will be able to draw energy from these memories.
