Football: Christophe Caschili is no longer the coach of Nyon

Earthquake at Stade Nyonnais. The club currently 8th in the Challenge League has decided to part ways with its coach Christophe Caschili and his assistant Oliver Maric. A strong decision, which reflects the recent upheavals in Colovray.

Because this decision, from a sporting point of view, was not a priori necessary. Caschili (45 years old) is the man for promotion to the Challenge League in spring 2023, a year after his arrival. The first season at the second national level was also a success, with a seventh place, well placed in the soft underbelly of the ranking.

It is since this summer that things have proven more complicated for the French technician: Nyon is near the bottom of the ranking. But the end of the year is not negligible: in the last four matches, the Vaudois won two, in addition to two draws. 8 points is almost as many as in the fourteen previous matches.

And yet, President Michael Palma decided to strike hard, just after Friday’s success in Schaffhausen (1-0). It is Michel Gigantino, in charge of the athlete as part of a new committee set up last month, who explains the reasons: “It is a decision that the president took after a discussion with the coach, he explains. It is done amicably and it is taken for the good of the club, to leave with new bases of work next year.

Because things are moving on the Colovray side. In mid-November, former general manager Varujan Symonov also chose to leave the club, after eight years. It must be considered that Caschili’s departure is also somewhat linked to this.

In other words, Stade Nyonnais, under the leadership of Michael Palma, may have wanted to turn the page on what was done before with the yellow and black club. Probably to start in a new direction, with a new administrative structure, but also a sporting one, which needed to be professionalized. Caschili, because he was “the man of the past”, undoubtedly paid a little, regardless of his recent results.

But who will succeed him? No coach has yet been named. Discussions are planned already this week. As for Stade Nyonnais, we have not yet targeted a typical profile. This could as well be a renowned figure as a local man. To be continued.
