It is now confirmed: RFC Liège supporters will no longer be able to comment on Facebook publications from their favorite club. But then why?
Currently in a delicate situation following its new defeat against Lokeren (0-1), RFC Liège is making an important decision regarding its communication. Liège supporters will no longer be able to comment on the club’s Facebook publications.
“For many months, despite the return to professional football, despite several exceptional performances, despite the constant evolution of the RFCL, … the club’s Facebook page has become a release point and a place of cyber-harassment”, express the Blood and Marines in a statement.
To counter cyber-harassment towards some of their members, the Liège club is therefore taking a radical decision: “The club’s Facebook page will now only be an external communication channel. Comments will no longer be authorized there. In the future, the club will favor face-to-face exchanges with the organization of Fan Talks, which will be offered more regularly in order to maintain a constructive and direct dialogue with supporters.”
Faced with regrettable behavior observed recently, RFC Liège wanted to recall the fundamental values which unite the team and its supporters: “The club believes deeply in the passion and unity of its supporters. But this passion must never transform into violence, whether verbal or digital. The club must remain a friendly, family-friendly place of relaxation, both at the stadium and on its media.
“Today, we can consider that a large number of sports figures are victims of cyber-harassment, including several members of RFC Liège. In a club close to its public, these behaviors can have a rapid and significant negative impact on the level, but above all on the health of the club members.”
