NCAA: Travis Hunter of the University of Colorado is the recipient of the Heisman Trophy

University of Colorado cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter is the most recent winner of the Heisman Trophy, the honor given to the college football’s Most Valuable Player.

The other finalists for this prestigious NCAA distinction were Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) and Cam Ward (Miami).

Hunter, a star player who can play both offense and defense, was named first-team All-Big 12 wide receiver and earned honorable mention as Offensive Player of the Year.

He led the Big 12 with 92 pass catches and 14 touchdowns and was second with 1,152 yards caught.

His 21 passes of more than 20 yards are a record. He is also the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and unanimous first-team all-star defensive back after recording 31 tackles, tied for the Big 12 lead with 11 blocked passes and tied for second with four interceptions.

The Heisman has been awarded to the nation’s most outstanding college football player since 1935.

The four candidates are determined annually by more than 900 members of the media and past recipients of the trophy.
