Austrian Cornelia Hütter won the Beaver Creek downhill this Saturday ahead of Sofia Goggi. The Italian makes a brilliant comeback ten months after her serious injury.
The first women’s alpine skiing speed event was held this Saturday in Beaver Creek. Winner of the small downhill globe last season, Cornelia Hütter immediately took control of this disciplinetaming the legendary Birds of Prey trail in Colorado. The Austrian secured a seventh World Cup victory ahead of the other heroine of the day, Sofia Goggia (+0.16). Seriously injured in February – double tibia-malleolus fracture – the Italian made a resounding comeback, beating among others Lara Gut-Behrami (+0.34). The Swiss climbs onto the podium for the first time this season.
The American Lauren Macuga failed to reach the podium (+0.52) while the Swiss Michelle Gisin (0.72) and the Italian Federica Brignone (+0.87) were respectively ranked 8th and 9th. On the tricolor side, Romane Miradoli completed her descent far from the best, 19th, more than a second and a half behind the winner (+1.63). Further still, in 27th place, Laura Gauche finished her race more than three seconds behind (+2.37). Camille Cerutti, 31st, and Karen Clément, 36th, were pushed back beyond the top 30. A day to quickly forget for the French delegation, the day before the super-G, still at Beaver Creek.
