Anderlecht files a complaint after racist statements against Zanka, Slavia Prague firmly denies it
A painful shadow over the purple and white’s impressive victory in Prague. Slavia striker Tomas Chory hurled racist insults at Anderlecht defender Zanka twice during the match. However, Slavia Praag denies: “This does not suit a renowned club like Anderlecht.”
Colin Coosemans’ mysterious interview suddenly became a lot clearer.
The Anderlecht goalie reacted angrily to the question why he harassed the opposition so much today. “There’s a whole story behind that, that might come later,” he opened.
“I first have to consult with the club about this, but normally I am not like that. There were a few triggers to do it, things that are not acceptable.”
“Not only by the fans, but again: I will first consult with the club. You should not dig deeper into the story for the time being.”
Kept a cool head
A little later, David Hubert came to the press conference with more explanation. He stated that it was racism towards Zanka. “These are things that do not belong on a football field,” he responded angrily.
“At that moment I only wanted one thing and that was to leave the site. Zanka is not someone who makes things up: he heard what he heard.”
“But we are not going to leave it like that. There is a UEFA protocol that allows us to file a complaint and we will do that. Hats off to Zanka for keeping a cool head.”
Later, Anderlecht issued a statement: “During the Europa League match against Slavia Prague, defender Mathias Zanka Jørgensen was the victim of racist treatment by a Slavia Prague player. The incident was immediately reported to the referee on the field. RSC Anderlecht has also have the incident included in the UEFA Match Delegate’s report.
“RSC Anderlecht strongly condemns these events and stands united behind our defender. The club will enter into further consultations with UEFA to closely monitor this matter.”

Slavia Prague denies allegations
However, Slavia Praag denies all accusations in a written statement to Denik Sport. “The club is certain that our player has not made any racist statements,” it said. “We have condemned racism for a long time and it is unacceptable to us.”
According to Slavia, Anderlecht also adjusted its story. “Anderlecht contacted the referee around the 36th minute for racism from the crowd. This was investigated and not confirmed.”
“After the match it was about alleged racism from one of our players. Emotions are part of football, but just because our player speaks with a raised voice does not mean it can be considered racism.”
“Anderlecht never contacted us and did not make it clear what specifically happened. We are sorry that this unfounded accusation is being made. That does not suit a renowned opponent like Anderlecht.”
