QMJHL: the Drakkar offered a five-year contract extension to Jean-François Grégoire

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar announced Friday that it had offered a five-season contract extension to its general manager and head coach Jean-François Grégoire.

At the helm behind the team’s bench since 2020, Grégoire notably led the team to the regular season championship last season and to the circuit final last season.

This brilliance allowed him to win the title of head coach of the year and hockey general manager in the QMJHL, in addition to winning the head coach of the year award in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL ).

“I arrived in Baie-Comeau as an assistant coach and climbed the ranks over the last few years, knowing that we had to rebuild the team and instill a Drakkar culture among the young players. The results were conclusive and I am very motivated to pursue the objectives we have set. I am very happy to continue the adventure in Baie-Comeau, which I consider to be my home,” commented Grégoire in a press release.

“Jean-François has solid experience in several areas including player development and has a well-established network of contacts in the QMJHL and with player agents. For several years, we have been banking on stability to grow together and achieve victory. The renewal of Jean-François’ contract is another example and we know his desire to work jointly with us with a view to development and sound governance. We are proud to have him with us for many more years,” said Félix Lefrançois, vice-president of the board of directors and representative of the Drakkar at the QMJHL Members’ Assembly.
