Microsoft continues its adaptation to the requirements of the European market with a significant modification of its Windows 11 operating system. In its latest beta version, the Redmond company introduces a notable change in the Start menu, aimed at complying with the law on digital markets (DMA) of the European Union.
The new feature was discovered in Preview Build 27764 of Windows 11, distributed via the Canary channel. As reported MSPowerUserusers noticed a clear distinction between the “ windows search » and the “ web search via Bing », now presented side by side. This seemingly minor change is of particular importance in the European regulatory context.
Until now, when a user searched the Windows 11 Start menu, results automatically combined local computer content and web results provided by Bingprovided that this function is activated in the settings. Web results traditionally appeared under “Search the web” at the bottom of the “Best match” section.
This development is part of a series of measures announced by Microsoft last year. The company had already committed to allowing users to disable Bing web searchof supprimer Microsoft Edge et to integrate other search engines like Google in the Windows search interface.
The Build 27764 update also brings other notable new features, including support for third-party passkeys. Another improvement concerns the Start menu: right-clicking on pinned apps will now display jump lists for apps that have them. This feature, which enriches the Windows 11 user interface, can be disabled in Settings for those who prefer a cleaner experience.
