The Montreal Alouettes signed Canadian defensive back Vincent Delisle and Canadian running back Tanner Nelmes on Wednesday. The team also came to terms with two Americans; receiver Jose Barbon and quarterback James Morgan.
Delisle (6’2”, 190 lbs) is a product of Laval University and won the Vanier Cup in 2024 and 2022. He participated in the Alouettes camp in Saint-Jérôme in 2024 after being drafted the same year in the eighth round (74th overall). This year, he produced 15.5 tackles and one pass knockdown in six plays. In 37 career games, he has 54.5 tackles, one interception and six pass breakups.
Nelmes (6’0”, 215 lbs) joined the Alouettes in 2024 as a free agent. In 2024, he finished among the leaders with an average of 96.8 yards per game, winning the Yates Cup and the Uteck Bowl with the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks with whom he played five seasons. In 2021 and 2022, he received All-Canadian Academic honors. His junior year, he was named to his conference’s all-rookie team. He will be tied to the team until 2027.
Morgan (6’0”, 215 lbs) played four games with the Alouettes in 2024, spending most of the season on the development team. He completed 23 of 48 passes (47.9%) for 210 yards with the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL in 2023.
The Green Bay, Wisconsin native was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round (125th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft. The 26-year-old spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals.
He began his career with the Bowling Green State University Green Falcons where he played three seasons before transferring to the Florida International University Golden Panthers. In his last campaign, he completed 207 of 357 passes attempted for gains of 2,560 yards and 14 majors in 13 games. In 2020 he participated in the East-West Shrine Bowl by throwing a touchdown pass in his team’s victory and earned an invitation to the NFL Combine. He is tied to the team until 2026.
Barbon (5’11”, 182 lbs) will be linked to the Alouettes until 2026. The 24-year-old played two games in 2024, catching three passes for 17 yards. He spent most of the season on the development squad. In 2023, he was a member of the Calgary Stampeders development team. The former Temple University Owls caught 138 passes for 1,608 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons. He finished his career with the Owls ranked fourth all-time as a receiver. Through the air, he had 72 receptions for 918 yards and two touchdowns in his final season. The Havana, Cuba native signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent in 2023.
