the essential
For 20 years, Pascale and Jean-Luc Ducours had been the leaders of the Course des sables which had enjoyed immense success. The new Cap animation team, which since last year has taken up the torch with the Trail des sables, is following in the same footsteps.

With exactly 716 participants in the three races and the hike organized on Sunday, December 8 in the morning, the Trail des sables has indeed reached the participation records of the Course des sables to the great satisfaction of Pascal Sanchez, president of the Cap animation association. : “I am, indeed, very happy with the number of participants, an increase of almost 50% compared to last year. The weather was not necessarily friendly but the trail runners do not stop at this detail . For the first time, we organized a race, excluding Challenge Trails 47, over 5 kilometers as well as a hike in partnership with Albret hiking in order to reach athletes of all levels and families. We are really happy that. the Trail des sables was able to take over from the famous Course des sables.”

Excellent times on rolling courses

The trail runners all admitted to having particularly appreciated the circuits which crisscross the Landes forest. Very little mud despite the heavy rain in the days preceding the race. The excellent times demonstrate that the courses, with little difference in altitude, were extremely smooth. The resident of the Union Athletic Club, Raphaël Prely, already winner last year of the long trail, improved his time by more than 2 minutes. Marianne Bosch-Torrès won the women’s event over the same distance after running the Valencia marathon in 3 hours 26 minutes the previous week. Over the 9 km, the women’s event gave rise to a great fight between the two SUA triathlon athletes separated by less than eight seconds. Laurine Boutan postponing the sprint in front of Lakshmi Gervais.

A beautiful morning concluded with a meal which brought together a good number of trail runners and many volunteers who must be congratulated for their perfect organization.
