George Russell took second place in Sprint qualifying in Qatar. Mercedes F1 therefore continues its good momentum from Las Vegas, which delights the latest winner of Formula 1.
“I was strong all session. The car is excellent on this circuit. This circuit is one of the best when you get into this rhythm. It is very fast.”
“I drove hard into the high speed zone for the first time on my last lap in Q3 and I disturbed the engine a bit. I lost, I don’t know how much, but I had a big recharge at the exit of the corner because I passed it hard.”
“It was too technical! But it was a bit boring because I managed to pass and then I lost a lot of speed on the exit but I think Lando was a bit out of reach for pole.”
“Tomorrow for the Sprint, McLaren will be in a big fight for the championship. But we have nothing to lose. We are aiming for big results.”
“We will try to get a good start. The Sprint is just the Sprint. We also need to focus on qualifying.”
Only 7th, tenths behind his teammate, Lewis Hamilton still had the lead on bad days.
“It was like every other qualifying, not great. I’m just slow. Who knows if it’s me? I’m definitely not fast. It’s the same every weekend. The car was relatively good. None problem. Not much to add.”
“The long relay wasn’t too bad in the Freestyle. But when you have to come back to the front like me, it’s almost impossible to fight for victory. But it’s the Sprint. I’ll do what I can tomorrow.”
Are there any positives to take away?
“Not particularly. The positive thing is that the car is fast and George should be able to aim for pole tomorrow.”
