Jack Drury and Seth Jarvis scored the other two goals for the Hurricanes, who regained first place in the East thanks to a 16-5-1 record, good for 33 points.

Martin Necas obtained two assists and temporarily took first place in NHL scoring with 37 points, including 12 goals, in 22 games.

Jonny Brodzinski, Brett Berard and Adam Edstrom scored for the Rangers, who lost a fourth straight game.

Spencer Martin stopped 21 shots for a second straight victory in place of Pyotr Kochetkov, who is being evaluated daily for a concussion.

Igor Shesterkin blocked 26 of 30 shots aimed at his net.

Capitals 5 – Lightning 4

In Tampa, Tom Wilson scored on the power play with 3:26 left in the third period to help the Washington Capitals defeat the Lightning 5-4.

Aliaksei Protas, Andrew Mangiapane, Dylan Strome and John Carlson also moved the ropes for the Capitals, who won a sixth straight game on the road.

Charlie Lindgren gave the Lightning a 4-3 lead by sending the puck into his own net, but then closed the door, finishing the game with 24 saves.

In the loss, Braydon Point scored the fifth hat trick of his career. Michael Eyssimont scored the other goal for the Lightning, who have lost three of their last four games. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

Blues 3 – Devils 0

In Newark, Dylan Holloway scored two goals in the first period and the St. Louis Blues never looked back, winning 3-0 against the New Jersey Devils.

Robert Thomas scored the Blues’ other goal and Jordan Binnington stopped 32 shots to record his first shutout of the campaign.

Head coach Jim Montgomery won his first two games at the helm of the Blues. His team defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 on Monday.

The Devils, for their part, suffered their first setback in four games.

Wild 1 – Sabres 0

In Buffalo, Filip Gustavsson made 39 saves, Kirill Kaprizov scored the only goal of the game and the Minnesota Wild defeated the Sabers 1-0.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 28 pucks for the Sabres, who saw their winning streak stopped at three.

For Gustavsson, it was a second shutout this season. The Wild improved to 10-1-3 on the road, the best in the NHL.

The 14the Kaprizov’s goal of the campaign came 6:55 into the first period on a four-on-one advantage. The Russian completed a nice exchange with Joel Eriksson Ek and Matthew Boldy.

Maple Leafs 1 – Panthers 5

At Sunrise, Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe scored on power plays, Sam Reinhart added a goal while his team was shorthanded and the Florida Panthers defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1.

For head coach Paul Maurice’s team, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, it was only their second victory in eight outings.

Mackie Samoskevich also scored for the Panthers while Sam Bennett scored an empty-net goal.

Verhaeghe added two assists and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky blocked 24 pucks.

Mitch Marner scored the only goal for the Maple Leafs, who suffered a second defeat in their last nine games. This setback means that their lead over the Panthers at the top of the Atlantic Division is only one point.

Bruins 6 – Islanders 3

In New York, Pavel Zacha and Brad Marchand each scored two goals, Jonas Korpisalo stopped 21 shots and the Boston Bruins defeated the Islanders 6-3.

Morgan Geekie and Nikita Zadorov also found the back of the net for the Bruins, who have won three of their last four games. David Pastrnak and Elias Lindholm each had three assists.

Brock Nelson had two goals and an assist for the Islanders, who lost their second straight game. They have won only one of their last six meetings.

Maxim Tsyplakov scored the Islanders’ other goal and Ilya Sorokin blocked 15 shots.

Canucks 4 – Penguins 5

In Pittsburgh, Bryan Rust collected two goals and an assist to guide the Penguins to a 5-4 victory against the Vancouver Canucks.

After a five-game absence due to a concussion, Blake Lizotte scored one of the Penguins’ goals.

Kevin Hayes, during a power play, and Rickard Rakell, also found the back of the net for the Penguins.

Veterans Erik Karlsson and Sidney Crosby did their part with three and two assists, respectively.

Tristan Jarry blocked 25 pucks in front of the Penguins net.

The Canucks were down 5-2 entering the third period, but Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson brought their team to within one goal.

Pius Suter and Aatu Raty had the other two goals for the Canucks, while goaltender Arturs Silovs made 18 saves.

Flames 1 – Red Wings 2 (prolongation)

In Detroit, Lucas Raymond scored on the power play 3:35 into overtime and the Red Wings defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1.

Alex DeBrincat also found the back of the net with an extra man for the Red Wings, who collected their third victory in four games. Cam Talbot stopped 24 shots.

Connor Zary tied the score on the power play with just 2:48 remaining on the clock in regulation time.

Dan Vladar stopped 25 shots for the Flames, who lost for the second time in a row.

Red Wings forward Patrick Kane missed a second straight game with an upper-body injury.

Flyers 3 – Predators 2 (prolongation)

In Nashville, Sean Couturier scored 2:31 into overtime to allow the Philadelphia Flyers to beat the Predators 3-2.

Scott Laughton and Morgan Frost scored the other two goals for the Flyers, who have not suffered a defeat in regulation time in their last three duels (2-0-1).

Roman Josi and Ryan O’Reilly responded for the Predators, who lost a second straight game and six of their last eight.

Aleksei Kolosov stopped 25 shots for a second straight victory. His opposite number Juuse Saros made 20 saves.

Stars 2 – Blackhawks 6

In Chicago, Taylor Hall scored the fifth hat trick of his career, Connor Bedard, Teuvo Teravainen and Louis Crevier also found the back of the net and the Blackhawks defeated the Dallas Stars 6-2.

For the Blackhawks, this is a second victory in three games.

Hall’s first goal, scored after just 17 seconds of play, set the tone. His shot hit a defender’s stick and went under the glove of Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith.

From then on, the Blackhawks played with confidence and inflicted a second defeat on the Stars in a row.

Bedard’s goal was his first in 13 games. After finding the back of the net with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle, he looked up toward the ceiling of the United Center in relief.

Goalie Petr Mrazek stopped 25 shots and scored a seventh victory this season.

Colin Blackwell and Matt Duchene were the only Stars players to deceive his vigilance.
