While Andy Murray will play his last Wimbledon in this 2024 edition, even if we will only see him in doubles following his recent withdrawal from the singles, Emma Raducanu spoke at length about all the admiration she had for her compatriot in a press conference.

And when asked what she had learned from him, the young British woman inevitably insisted on his perseverance by citing a specific and very telling example.

“The thing that I learned and the thing that stuck with me the most was when he lost in the final at Wimbledon and then came back a month later to win the Olympics. To go through six really tough rounds and lose in the final, and then play a month later and be in the final again… You don’t realize it, you think of déjà vu scenarios. It’s very hard to put all that aside. That’s kind of why I’m so grateful to have won the U.S. Open. Because if you get to the final and don’t win it, you’re always going to wonder if you’re ever going to get it. For me, I have it now.”
